Understand the relationship between TVOC and formaldehyde and the dangerous concentrations

TVOC refers to the sum of all volatile organic compounds in indoor air. Volatile organic compounds refer to organic compounds that are easily volatile at room temperature, such as various chemicals, cleaning agents, coatings, building materials, and furniture. The presence of TVOCs is often due to these substances being released indoors and becoming trapped in indoor air.

Formaldehyde is a volatile organic compound that is one of the most common indoor air pollutants. Formaldehyde is commonly found in furniture, carpets, wallpaper, building materials and some appliances, and can pose a threat to human health at higher concentrations in indoor air.

There is a close relationship between TVOC and formaldehyde. Because formaldehyde is one of the volatile organic compounds, when the indoor TVOC concentration increases, the concentration of formaldehyde will also increase. Therefore, indoor environments with high TVOC concentrations typically also have high formaldehyde concentrations.
